Leicester Pride 2012
Leicester Pride is returning this year with more entertainment and activities to plant it firmly on the map as a destination event for the city.
With a masquerade theme, Leicester will see its fourth annual Pride kick off at midday with a buzz of colour, starting off with a procession from the Cultural Quarter (outside Curve), winding its way through the City Centre and New Walk until reaching Victoria Park at 1pm.
As well as great music from DJs, 2012 Pride will see a line up of local talent and special guests performing on the main music stages throughout the day, and involvement from local businesses with market stalls, beer tents and food. Kieron Richardson (Ste from Hollyoaks) will also be at Leicester Pride this year to sign autographs and enjoy the day.
Saturday 1st September 2012
Procession starts at 12pm from Curve, Cultural Quarter, Leicester
Celebrations in Victoria Park start at 1pm.
This year the committee have concentrated on creating more of a community feel too with Billy Bates children's fair and a vintage market of local traders selling everything from jewellery to clothes - additions which make this expanding event more supportive of the local business community and people of the city. Following the daytime events at Victoria Park, there will be more events taking place at participating venues across the city later in the evening.
Chief Chairman of Pride committee, Martyn Parker, says: "This year we’re going bigger and better, and we’re working tirelessly to roll out the red carpet to all members of the community.”
Leicester Pride recently received a Diamond Jubilee Award, given for their hard work in community building, education and development of Leicester and Leicestershire's LGBT community, and for helping to promote and nurture the multicultural diversity of the city.
